Vape Leaking Troubleshooting
E-liquid leaking from a tank or pod system is usually caused by one of a handful of mechanical or user-related issues. Work through these checks in order.
1. Check the O-Rings
O-rings are the rubber seals that prevent e-liquid from escaping the tank body. Disassemble the tank and inspect each O-ring for:
- Cracks or tears
- Misalignment from the seal groove
- Deformation from overtightening
A damaged O-ring must be replaced. Most tanks ship with spare O-rings; replacements are also available at KVS stores.
2. Check for a Flooded Coil
Drawing too hard on the mouthpiece can pull liquid through the coil faster than it can be vaporized, flooding the coil head. Signs include a gurgling sound and e-liquid in the chimney. To fix:
- Remove the tank from the mod.
- Remove the coil, gently tap out excess liquid, and allow it to air-dry for a few minutes.
- Reassemble and take slow, even draws.
3. Avoid Overfilling
Most tanks have a fill line. Exceeding it can force e-liquid into the airflow channel and out through the air holes. Fill to the indicated maximum and replace the top cap before inverting the tank.
4. Temperature and Pressure
Temperature changes can cause e-liquid to thin out and seep through seals. Leaving your device in a hot car or flying (altitude/pressure change) can accelerate leaking. Store the device upright and at moderate temperatures.
5. Tank Threading and Assembly
Hand-tighten only — overtightening can crack the glass or deform O-rings. Finger-tight is correct; do not use tools.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Why is e-liquid leaking from my tank?
- The most common causes of leaking are: a damaged or misaligned O-ring, a flooded coil caused by drawing too hard, overfilling the tank, or condensation pooling in the chimney. Inspect each of these in order.
- What causes a flooded coil?
- A flooded coil is caused by drawing too hard on the mouthpiece, which sucks liquid directly through the coil rather than vaporizing it. Light, slow draws at appropriate wattage prevent flooding. If already flooded, dry-fire the coil briefly or disassemble and dry the coil head.
- How do I stop my pod from leaking?
- Make sure the pod is firmly seated and the fill port is properly closed. Avoid leaving the device in high-temperature environments. If the pod has visible cracks or the seal is damaged, replace the pod.
